Pink.

Things are starting to bloom, but I decided to focus on the pink blossoms today.  I often drive around and plot things out.  Sometimes, I drive across town if I find something I particularly like, but don't have my camera with me, the first time I see it.  My brain is like a catalogue for this sort of thing.  I wish I could keep my appointments and social engagements straight, the way I can this sort of thing, but I guess that's what calendars are for!  I digress...

I believe these are plum blossoms, found mostly on SE 30th avenue, between Belmont and Hawthorne.

Flower, you've got it goin' on...

Some flowers just have more swagger than others... it's true.  Flower, you know it's true.  Ooh, ooh, oooh... OK, I'll stop...

Let there be light!

The lighting used in Pittock Mansion is all original.  Some of it is just gorgeous.

Design Elements

The design elements used in the house were really something to see.  I'm a sucker for beautiful mouldings, and this place certainly had them!

Heavy picture hooks were needed here.  I would love to find some of these!

The Annunciator...

Communications in the Pittock House were fairly typical for the time period, in wealthy circles, anyway.  The annunciator totally cracked me up, though.

And there, it is.  The annunciator.  It sounds like a wrestler name or something.

Up the down staircase, among other mediums... of getting up and down.

And here, we have some of the staircases in the house.  I didn't get all of them, because there are some that you need permits to see.  I may try to figure out how to do that, because I would love to see the rest of the house, and the servants' quarters.  But here, we have a back staircase.

In my house, we have a similar one that we use as a main staircase.  There used to be a large staircase in the front of my house, but it was torn out when they turned this one into student housing for Reed College.  Digressing here, because this is about Pittock, not my place.  But, it is why I am interested in all of the other staircases, as well.

This is the door to the first residential elevator built, on the West Coast.  This was built with Georgiana in mind, because she had a stroke during the time the house was being built.

And now, for the main attraction!  This house is 16,000 Square Feet, and the staircase is a very prominent feature, making up the central portion of the house.

This railing detail was carved from Eucalyptus.
